The Youth Challenge Group is a group of teenagers
with a strong parental support that ski the less traveled trails of the
Larch Hill trail system. The program is designed for the younger Larch
Hill members [ages 12 to19] who have completed the Rabbit ski lesson
program and wish to continue to spend their Saturdays skiing with an
energetic bunch of young skiers. The emphasis of the program is on fun,
social skiing and longer ski times [two to three hours] providing a
great alternative to the Racing Team. The members decide the routes that
they will follow during the up-coming season at a pre season planning
meeting.
Fees
All skiers using the Larch Hill trails must obtain a membership from the Larch Hill Nordic Society for insurance purposes. Family rates are very reasonable. Youth Challenge Group costs are $25.00 per season, payable to the Nordic Society, identifying the money for the Challenge Group. The money is used to cover the members' expenses for off mountain trips.
Challenges
The challenges will change depending on the abilities of the
members. Over the years we have stayed over night at the main chalet,
gone for moonlight skis, helped the club out with the lantern ski, tried
snowjoring (being pulled by dogs while on skis), built snow caves,
telmark skied, and gone on over night back country ski trips. Safety
factors and the member’s imagination and abilities only limit the
challenges that can be tried.
