Larch Hills Canine Trail

Thank you for helping to make our new multi-use canine trail a success!

Larch Hills Canine TrailWhat are we doing?
For the 2011-12  Larch Hills Nordic Society is opening an 800 m section of trail as a down and back (1600 m) dog friendly multi-use (snowshoeing & skiing)  trail. Our Canine Trail is on an 800 m section of the Salmar Trail and Sunshine Trail. It is being tried on an experimental basis for this season. The success of our trial will be assessed on an ongoing basis over the season. Because this section of trail is a good “Beginner Trail” and it is used during Jack Rabbits and club racing events, it will be closed to dogs during Jack Rabbit mornings and those hours when competitions using the trail are in progress. It may have novice skiers sharing it at any time.

Where?
The Canine Trail is accessed from the Parking Lot by the short  trail to the old Chalet location  (left side as you enter the parking area). Dog owners are asked to park in the designated area adjacent to the access trail.

Be alert.
Also note that there are down hills entering both ends of the Canine trail.  Control problems or speed on these hills by other skiers may be a hazard at either end of  the Canine Trail.  Be alert.  Report problems.

Please respect the following rules:

  • Please keep your dog under control at all times.

  • Dogs must be on a leash in the parking area, and en route to the Canine Trail.

  • Dogs may be off the leash on the Canine Trail.

  • Dogs are only allowed on the designated Canine Trail.

  • A maximum of two dogs are allowed per skier.

  • Please scoop and remove promptly.

  • Dogs are not allowed on the multi-use (Canine) trail on Jack Rabbit Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, or during Race Day times (normally 1 -3 hours) as stipulated by the Race Marshall.
